More than 55.000 couples marry in Las Vegas every year. About 1.900 of them are Germans. Nowhere in the whole world it is less complicated and unbureaucratic than in Las Vegas. First you need a marriage certificate. You get it in the Marriage Licence Bureau and it costs 50$. You have to show the certificate at the wedding. You must take your passport with you because you have to show it. Divorced persons must show their divorce certificate, widows and widowers must show a death certificate of the dead person. The marriage can be carried out by a commissioner of Civil Marriage or can take place in one of the countless wedding chapels. The commissioner of Civil Marriage is just a few meters away from the courthouse. At least one witness must accompany you, e.g. a child or the photographer. That's it: you are married. If you prefer a romantic marriage, you better choose one of sixty wedding chapels. You can book an all-inclusive-arrangement: photographer, music, flowers, limousine. Or have a "drive through" wedding: a wedding in an balloon or a helicopter. Everything is possible. Some chapels even offer a marriage in German language. This can be obtained from the Secretary of State in Carson City. But don't worry, the German Consulate can order this for you: German Consulate 900 E. To confirm the marriage in Germany you need a notarised transcription of the apostil. You can order this from the German Consulate in Las Vegas. The wedding date is the day when the office in Nevade registrated the wedding official. Both civil and religious marriages are legal. |
